We’ve lived in our new home for (just over) six months now! In some ways, I can’t believe it’s been this long, and in other ways, it seems like we’ve been here for an eternity.
While it sometimes is hard to remember, we have accomplished a lot in a relatively short amount of time. We’ve done a lot of what I would call “unsexy” things to the house. Necessary things like fixing electrical and other structural issues, but things that aren’t exactly Instagrammable.
I wanted to share a list of everything we’ve done over the past six months, plus what’s on the docket to round out the rest of our first year!
Everything We’ve Accomplished
LIVING ROOM
- Painted the walls (Vale Mist by Benjamin Moore)
- Painted the fireplace
- Hung Roman shades
- Got a new mantle mirror
- Removed the window seat (this one sort of made me sad as I fell in love with the window seat when we toured the building, but once we’d lived with it for a while, we learned how uncomfortable and not well-made it was, and opted to open up the floorplan in the living room a bit.)
- Adjusted both sets of French doors so they actually shut properly
DINING ROOM
- Properly grounded the electrical outlets
- Added a rug and dining table
- Added a Billy bookcase from Ikea
- Adjusted the closet door so it would shut properly
KITCHEN
- Replaced all the appliances
- Replaced in-wall air conditioning unit

The Next Six Months
LIVING ROOM
- Install curtains in the bay window
- Add a new accent chair
- Replace the TV stand
- Get a Samsung Frame TV
- Add a gallery rail to the far wall
- Add a bar cart
DINING ROOM
- Paint the bottom half of the wall and trim
- Wallpaper the top half of the walls
- Replace the chandelier
- Rewire the electrical outlets
BATHROOM
We intend to fully remodel the bathroom at some point, but I doubt that’s going to happen this year. Still, I’m hoping I can swap out some of the smaller things to make it a bit less 90s.
- Replace the vanity mirror and sconces
- Replace all hardware – towel racks, toilet paper holder, etc.
- Paint the walls
KITCHEN
We will likely at least begin to tackle the full kitchen reno this year (famous last words, right?) and it needs a lot of help.
- Replace all upper and lower cabinets
- Replace laundry units
- Install open shelves on far wall
- Replace sink and faucet
- Paint walls
- Install door over laundry units
BEDROOM
Our bedroom is currently the least loved room in the house. It took me a while to get a good vision for what I wanted to do in there, but I finally think I’ve got some ideas that hopefully won’t be too extensive.
- Buy a proper bed frame
- Paint an accent wall behind the bed
- Replace Ikea dresser with something vintage
- Add sconces on each side of bed
- Replace curtains
- Add a full length mirror
