I think we can all agree that 2020 was a shit show, but one incredibly bright spot for me was marrying my high school sweetheart and the love of my life.
We have been dating for a decade, and finally got officially engaged in August of 2020. We had been planning a big wedding for October 2021, but as the year progressed and the pandemic only worsened, it became clear that planning for next year was next to impossible, and there was no guarantee that things would be any semblance of normal by then.
What started as a hypothetical discussion one morning suddenly turned into “We’re getting married in three weeks!”
So on December 5th, 2020, we did just that. Outside, in 38 degree weather, in the backyard of my childhood home, wearing a $40 dress I found secondhand on Poshmark, and with a tiny percentage of the people we had originally hoped to celebrate with. And it was completely magical (and really cold). We had twinkle lights and a hot cocoa bar and an arch my parents and I DIY-ed (which looks pretty dang good if I say so myself).
By some lovely stroke of luck, the photographers we had hired were available on such short notice and were there to help us capture the day! Special shout out to Alicia + Harrison Photography for the wonderful photos that we’ll cherish the rest of our lives.
It certainly wasn’t how I ever envisioned our wedding happening, but in the end it was beautiful and magical and so full of love. Someday when it’s safe for everyone to gather, we will celebrate with all our friends and family, whether that’s next year or… not.
